    Ex-Herd Reiter Joins Steelers

Last seasons stand out player for the Basingstoke Bison has been confirmed as the man to replace the departing Jody Lehman between the pipers for the Sheffield Steelers this season. Kevin Reiter, a native of Pittsburgh, US, stands at 5’10” and tips the scales at 174lbs will hope to fill the big shoes left by Lehman who has left the Elite League champions to embark on a new challenge in Denmark. Reiter has already been quoted as saying how good the Steelers defence was last term, however coach Dave Matsos has yet to sign up the majority of his blue line personnel with only Scott Basiuk and Mark Thomas as confirmed signings. One thing is for sure, the Steelers back line will have a number of new faces and there will be a question mark as to whether the defence will be as strong as last seasons with Steve Munn and Rod Sarich remaining unsigned.

With Reiter however, they have managed to secure the signature of a goalie that has proven his ability in the past and managed to show flashes of his brilliance last season at the Bison including a memorable road win in Coventry where he withstood a barrage of some 50+ shots. In the season prior to joining the Bison, he posted a 2.34 GAA and a save percentage of .910 for the Fort Wayne Komets in the IHL.

Meanwhile, the Edinburgh Capitals have announced the signing of defenceman Chris Allen. Born in Chatham, Ontario, Allen has 130 games of ECHL experience along with 110 games in the AHL. He has also played in leagues across Europe including Finland, Austria, Denmark and Norway before playing a season in the Asian League with High1. Allen was drafted by the Florida Panthers in 1996 and was ranked 60th overall, he went on to play a couple of games with the Panthers but spent most of his contract with AHL team Beast of New Haven.
